A little history....
The Mile High Club is located in the heart of Oakland, California, bordering Berkeley, and just ten minutes over the bridge from downtown San Francisco. Its neighbors include KALX radio, UC Berkeley, Mills College, The Berkeley Jazz School, The Paramount & Fox Theater, The California College of The Arts, Amoeba and Mod Lang Records. For many years, the East Bay has been a thriving music community contributing to the Bay Area’s larger music scene.
The Mile High Club (originally called Eli’s Mile High Club) opened in 1974 by Eli and Alberta Thornton as a West Coast Blues venue. The club changed owners in 1979, however, after Eli’s mistress (a Blues singer) shot him while he was tending bar in this Depression Era building.
Several months later, Troyce Key leased and eventually purchased the bar from Alberta Thornton. Following Troyce Key’s death in 1992, the club came into other committed hands, but eventually fell on hard times, closing its doors on most nights of the week. But that was then. Now Eli’s provides entertainment 5 nights each week.
Play? Have talent? Karaoke shows your talents to those already working in the business. Bring it on down to Eli’s, book your venue here and be a part of history.
